Job Description
Position summary
This is a voter-focused position, providing registration services to the citizens of Manatee County. The work is primarily clerical, with light to occasional heavy telephone response to voter calls. Strong emphasis is placed on interaction with and serving the public.

Functions and responsibilities
  • Perform data entry with accuracy to process: new and existing voter registration applica­tions and Federal Postcard Applications; signup requests for Vote By Mail ballots; mail sent to voters but returned as undeliverable; and other types of Voter Services work
  • Communicate with voters via telephone or at the front desk to answer questions, update their information of record, and supply requested materials
  • Quality control through daily proofing of team’s completed work
  • Process incoming mail
  • Prepare voter cards and letters for mailing
  • Process List Maintenance and NCOA
  • Verify petition signatures as assigned
  • Maintain voter records; research required information
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Interact with the public accepting applications and answering general questions at Voter Registration events
  • Assist other departments as needed and other duties as assigned
 
Skills and qualifications
  • High School Diploma
  • Data entry knowledge, with the ability to learn how to use specialized voter registration software
  • Professional telephone communication skills for caller interaction
  • Ability to work effectively during fast-paced election cycles
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow instruction
  • Respect and comply with prescribed routines and procedures
  • Flexible and adaptable to workplace adjustments
  • Extended working hours required during election periods
  • Commitment to time management and punctuality 
  • Operational knowledge of office equipment (telephone, copier, fax, scanner, folder)
  • Operational knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, election information and procedure, including state laws pertaining to voter registration rights and requirements
Working conditions
Work is performed in an office environment, with extended hours of sitting. Regular working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. In addition, during election cycles, evening and weekend hours are often required.

Physical requirements
Work involves sitting at a desk, with some standing, reaching, stooping, and occasional lifting of objects less than 25 pounds. The position also requires extensive work at a computer screen.
