Responsibilities
  • Maintains trees, plants, shrubs, flowers and grass as directed through pruning, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, leaf blowing, raking and mulching.
  • Plants and transplants plants, trees, shrubs and flowers.
  • Monitors irrigation needs, waters as directed and reports problems to supervisor.
  • Operates equipment such as trimmers, hedgers, push mowers, edgers. Reports maintenance needs to supervisor.Drives motorized vehicles to traverse campus.
               
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements as determined by position. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, walk long distances, and work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in area of work.
  • Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
 
Skills needed include:
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to perform accurately in a detailed oriented environment.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to perform assigned responsibilities with minimal to moderate supervision.
  • Skill in safely operating various types of motorized vehicles including but not limited to utility vehicles and golf carts.
               
Preferred
Previous experience in groundskeeping work to include the transplanting, cultivation, pruning, and trimming of plants, shrubs, and trees.

Anticipated Salary Range
$11 per hour

Pay Plan
This is an OPS/temporary Job.
               
Schedule
20 hours a week, varying days/7 days a week 6:30am - 10:30am.
               
Criminal Background Check
This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
