Job Description

Electrical Inspector (Official Job Title: Building Codes Inspector I): This position will provide professional and accurate inspection services as a member of the Building Division of the Planning and Development Services Department. This position will inspect buildings under construction and/or repair, as assigned, to ensure conformity with approved plans and building codes and enter inspection results into LIMS database. This position has a high level of customer interaction and will build and foster a positive working relationship and maintain an excellent customer service standard when interfacing with both internal and external customers.

Duties:

  • Inspects buildings under construction, alteration and/or repair, as assigned, to ensure conformity with approved plans and building codes.
  • Reviews plans and specifications for proposed construction buildings and building improvements.  Issues notices of code violations applicable to their license(s); enters results of inspections into the Land Information Management System (LIMS) database and will prepare reports, worksheets and prepare daily activity reports.  Researches files and databases and maintains a variety of source background materials for reports.
  • Provides and maintains an excellent customer service standard in answering questions from the public pertaining to building issues, codes and ordinances and interface positively with peers, co-workers and other customers across the enterprise.
  • Acts in assigned capacity in the event of any County declared emergency.

Minimum Qualifications:  A High School Diploma or its equivalent and five (5) years of experience in Electrical construction trade or related field inspection or plans review.  A Bachelor’s Degree or courses from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Fire Administration, Building Construction/Inspection, or related field may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience with at least one year in field construction (30 college credits is considered equivalent to one year of experience).  Must have or the ability to obtain a Provisional Inspector license in the electrical trade within 120 days of hire.  Must possess or be able to obtain a Standard Electrical Inspector license prior to the expiration of the Provisional license (within one year of issuance of Provisional License).  Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications:   State of Florida Standard License issued by DBPR as an inspector for Electrical.
