Job Description
The Center for Career Engagement and Opportunity (CEO) at the New College of Florida (NCF) has two Assistant Director Positions available. The CEO is in its first year as the centralized, comprehensive, one-stop career education center. The staff in the CEO provides services, resources, programs and opportunities to meet the needs of the contemporary honors college student and a wide range of constituents in the state of Florida, regionally, nationally and globally.
The assistant directors engage with students and assist with staffing the reception desk while implementing and overseeing an array of services, resources, programs, career coaching methods and professional development events for New College undergraduate and graduate students and alumni/ae.
The AD Career Technology and Outreach will focus on the implementation and ongoing organization of the career management portal, NCFCareers. Using integrated technology applications and NCFCareers, the AD will provide individualized and large-scale corporate outreach and industry networking to advance NCFs employer base and career education. The AD will engage in one-to-one career sessions with students, alumni, faculty and clients providing support and outreach using NCFCareers. The AD will develop training manuals and SOPs for the portal and related office procedures. The AD will work collaboratively to establish, build and promote a premier internship program and the CEO career ambassador concierge service program – the CEO student employee team. This AD will develop a robust, ongoing and cyclical communications plan for NCFCareers and the CEO. The AD will write material for various CEO reports and publications including listservs, websites, social media platforms and print publications. The AD will assess, document and report outcomes. The AD plan and facilitate coaching and information sessions for students, faculty and alumni.
The AD Career Readiness and Student Employability will provide individualized and large-scale campus programming while establishing and advancing the student employment program. The AD will organize user/customer data and create training manuals and SOP for the student employment program. The AD will help facilitate and support the integration of the data into the NCFCareers portal. The AD will ensure employer records for part-time, on-campus and off-campus employment/job opportunities for students are accurate, timely and complete. The AD will assess, document and report outcomes. The AD will establish, design and manage extensive professional-quality student employee and supervisor training programs integrating career readiness training videos and other cohesive online technology materials used in conjunction with NCFCareers resources. This AD will design deliberate training programs as well as student/family-facing and campus-facing print materials, newsletters, and brochures promoting resources and services to students, part-time employers and other key constituents to expand student/employer usage. The AD will research, evaluate, define and implement an array of career-related strategies aligned with programs such as; mentorship, grant proposals, scholarships and fellowship activities to augment core competencies and employment capability (employability). The AD will plan and facilitate coaching and information sessions for students, faculty and alumni.
The ADs will:
  • Participate in one-on-one/individualized career coaching sessions educating students and alumni about the process of career exploration, self-assessment, decision making, job and internship search techniques, career management, summer planning, funding for career readiness-related opportunities, and graduate and professional school application process sessions.
  • Research and keep current on new developments in career education and student employment as well as employment trends and accountability for alumni career engagement post-graduation.
  • Participate in a full range of CEO-wide events and practices including; on-campus employer visits, career events/fairs, open houses, professional development workshops, college-wide meetings and data collection, assessment, and management.
Typical career engagement and coaching duties include:
  • Resume, CV and cover letter writing, LinkedIn profile reviews, interview preparation, and professional networking guidance. Building engaging relationships with corporate recruiters, regional employers, and executive search firms for client career opportunities is expected.
  • Possess exemplary interpersonal skills, a professional presence, and an engaging demeanor, coupled with strong networking skills and the ability to build relationships at multiple levels with internal and external constituents.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate student employees.
  • Demonstrate an acuity for the values of integrity, respect, responsibility, discovery, excellence and knowledge of the professional standards of career services.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher with three (3-5) years’ higher education experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Degree must be in career education, counseling or closely related field. Experience must include administration and counseling in career planning and/or career and workplace readiness and internship employer development activities.
  • Active knowledge and use of social media for digital marketing and resource development as well as proficiency using contemporary technology software and platforms/portals is desired.
  • Experience may also require at least one (1) year of supervision.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs of student populations from countries outside the United States.
  • Ability to work under pressure, with the flexibility to respond to changing priorities and fluctuating workloads.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, alumni, prospective students, recruiters, faculty, staff, and professionals from other institutions and associations.
  • Ability to market the CEO to current and prospective recruiters.
  • Prior relationship management and marketing experience is highly preferred. Skills in organizing work, defining tasks, prioritizing assignments, and following through on all projects independently.
  • Ability to think strategically, work as a team member and individually, develop and execute operational plans and manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Knowledge of computerized career center database/portal programs, understanding of website development/maintenance, ability to effectively use MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel.
  • Strong platform communications experience required. Experience in oral presentations to large and medium sized groups required.
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends to fulfill job duties.
  • Strong interest in business and knowledge of current business and recruiting trends.
Preferred Qualification: Master’s degree and five years of experience in a career advising role preferred. Master's degree preferred, plus extensive work experience in developing and delivering career management training and career advising services to students in higher education, associated career coaching, employer relations, corporate recruitment, talent acquisition services or career counseling.
