Job Description
New College of Florida is excited to announce the search for its next General Counsel and Secretary of the College.  The position directs the college’s legal affairs as a member of the president’s senior leadership team.
Situated on the Gulf Coast of Florida and Sarasota Bay, New College is a nationally recognized, selective public residential honors college with a 10:1 student/faculty ratio. Students are intellectually independent and highly motivated. Undergraduate research/creative work has a central role in the curriculum, and a senior thesis/project is required of all students. Reporting functionally to the Board of Trustees and administratively to the President, the General Counsel and Secretary of the College serves as the college’s chief legal officer advising the college, its Board of Trustees and, where appropriate, its Direct Support Organizations. The position is responsible for a wide range of legal, regulatory, labor relations and Enterprise Risk Management matters and provides staff support to the Board.  The successful candidate must be a current member in good standing of the Florida Bar. Experience as an attorney serving a higher education institution and/or in matters routinely faced by institutions of higher education and/or experience in managing compliance functions affecting institutions of higher education is preferred.
