Job Description
Teach on-site technology-based summer programs at Mote Marine Laboratory. The Summer Camp Marine Science Educator works closely with staff, volunteers, and interns in the Education Department and throughout the Lab and Aquarium to ensure that the needs of the audiences are being met.
 
General Duties
Translating and transferring the scientific research of Mote and general concepts to a variety of audiences
Implement engaging hands-on camp activities including field experiences, science activities, arts and crafts, animal encounters, songs, and games for youth camp participants
Use and maintain the SO-COOL computer lab, infrastructure and online assets (calendaring and photo-sharing).
Provide high quality group management to groups of participants of varying ages
Provide direction to interns and volunteers
Prepare, organize and maintain camp supplies
Provide outstanding customer service to camp participants, their families, Aquarium visitors, and others
Other duties as assigned by the Senior Coordinator of Educational Technology or Assistant Vice President of Education
 
Working Hours
Normal hours are >30 hours per week, weekdays between 11:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. with some occasional weekend and evening work required between June 4, 2018 and August 10, 2018.
 
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in science (biology, education or computer science preferred)
At least one year teaching experience in either a formal or informal education facility
Proficiency with Apple Macintosh computers and iWork software
Experience with the Snap! and Scratch programming languages preferred
Familiarity with LEGO robotics preferred
Reliable transportation and the ability to arrive at (off-site) locations at designated times
U.S. citizenship or foreign citizen’s U.S. work permit appropriate for the work
Certifications required: CPR/First Aid and Insect Sting Emergency Treatment Certification (Mote will provide both)
Excellent verbal/written communication skills
Stamina for working occasional long hours at outdoor locations in hot/cold weather, high humidity, intense sunlight, and wet weather while responsible for youth and adult participants
Ability to carry/move heavy objects up to 40 lbs.
