Job Description

Industrial Treatment Plant Maintenance Supervisor (Official Job Title: Supervisor, Chief Treatment Plant Operator): Responsible for the daily scheduling, coordinating, supervision, technical advising and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment and appurtenances at all Public Utility Water and Wastewater facilities.


  • Schedule, coordinate and supervise the maintenance and repair activities at Water and Wastewater Facilities. Coordinate maintenance and repairs activities and schedules with Chief Operators.
  • Conduct inspections of all work activities to monitor the effectiveness and timely completion of these activities.
  • Process and/or review documents such as purchase requisitions, purchase orders, work orders, performance evaluations, bid specifications, invoices and packing slips.
  • Procure parts, materials and equipment necessary for maintenance and repair operations.
  • Assist in the implementation, maintenance of and monitoring of preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance and repair programs.
  • Responsible for appropriate scheduling of employees, materials and work to effectively and efficiently perform all maintenance activities.
  • Track vehicle and equipment usage and condition.
  • Monitor maintenance contractor work to ensure compliance with applicable County codes and standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned including alternating duties with other Utilities Supervisor positions.
  • Manages proactive assessments of fraud awareness, prevention, detection and risk mitigation activities in area of responsibility; oversees financial, compliance, operational and performance audits; reviews audit findings and ensures appropriate controls are established and implemented.


Minimum Qualifications:  A High School Diploma or its equivalent and four (4) years of related experience in in the water/wastewater, industrial electrician or industrial mechanic field including one year of supervisory experience or any equivalent combination of related college education (in engineering, mechanical or electrical maintenance) and experience.  Should be proficient in the operation of a 1.5-ton crane truck. Possession of a valid Florida Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brakes endorsement is required within six (6) months of appointment. 

Preferred Qualifications:  Progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of utility or industrial mechanical and electrical equipment and appurtenances. Certification from trade school in pumps, valves, electrical or fluid mechanics.  Pump or motor repair, control panel repair, hydraulics, fluid mechanics and welding. Safety training in Training in Hazcom, Confined Spaces, Hearing Protection, Bloodborne Pathogens, Respirators, Workplace Violence, Lockout/Tagout, Fire Extinguishers, Personal Protection Equipment.
