Job Description
Mote Marine Laboratory (Mote) an independent nonprofit, 501 C(3), research and education institution established in 1955, is seeking a recent, or forthcoming Ph.D. in Ecotoxicology, or associated field, for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship.  The Postdoctoral researcher will join a diverse team of marine scientists investigating the source, fate and effects of toxic chemicals in the coastal marine environment, including harmful algal toxins, pesticides, other endocrine disrupting compounds, and their effects on estuarine and marine organisms. Mote Ecotoxicology research includes synergistic effects from exposure to multiple stressors, including climate change, and identifying sublethal biomarkers of effects that may only be evident in subsequent generations. The successful candidate must be proficient with protocol for aquatic toxicology, environmental sample collection and processing, analytical chemistry laboratory protocol, HPLC-MS and GC-MS instrumentation and data interpretation, and statistical analysis. A working knowledge of risk assessment is also desirable.
The position in expected to begin in June or July of 2019. Mote Postdoctoral Research Fellows are expected to strengthen and diversify Mote’s significant existing research expertise, as well as to establish their own innovative research initiatives as independent investigators.  The Fellowship is for up to three years with an annual salary starting at $50,000.  Exemplary Fellows may be invited to join Mote as Staff Scientists upon completion of their appointment.  The position also affords the opportunity for hosting visiting scientists, interaction with scientists from multiple disciplines at Mote, oversight of college student interns and volunteers, and to serve as Courtesy Faculty, mentoring graduate research with various universities.  The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to report findings in significant peer reviewed professional publications, and participate in professional organizations and meetings.
