Job Description

Pretrial Services - Jail Operations Coordinator (Official Job Title: Business Professional II):  This position involves highly responsible professional and administrative work planning, coordinating and managing the Pretrial Services (PTS) Interviewing Unit including the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC).  The position provides advanced technical and analytical work supporting and coordinating projects, conducts research, formulates and interprets policy and procedures, and is actively involved with performance measures, personnel and related operational functions.

Duties:

  • Plans, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of Pretrial Services Case Officers in the Interviewing Unit and JAC. Interprets policy and assists in developing, coordinating and implementing program policies, procedures, and work standards with Florida statutes governing program goals and objectives. Consults with judiciary, State Attorney’s office, Public Defender’s office, Sheriff’s Office and other stakeholders to ensure continued compliance with special tasks including but not limited to: specialty court referrals, Delegated Release Authority and jail population issues. Establishes employee performance measures and monitors employee progress. Ensures employee evaluations and performance plans are completed timely. Directly supervises the work of four Pretrial Services Senior Case Officers and JAC Compliance Coordinator. Manages all Pretrial staff in the absence of the Pretrial Director and the Senior Deputy Court Administrator. Participates in the recruitment and selection process for new hires. Attends various court and community meetings to represent department and report on data collected and operations of Pretrial Services and the JAC.
  • Develops and implements Pretrial Services program policies, procedures and/or job requirements in compliance with Florida Statutes, National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies, etc. Keeps current on PTS policy revisions, trends, updates in the law and evidence based practices that will positively impact PTS. Reviews the work of and assists JAC Compliance Coordinator in creating policies, procedures, and/or job requirements in compliance with Department of Juvenile Justice, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Florida Statutes. Continually monitors policy and procedure to ensure understanding, program compliance and efficiency on all levels. Identifies and addresses operational issues within the Interviewing Unit, JAC and other special Pretrial Services Court Programs.
  • Performs duties of Case Officer, Senior Case Officer and JAC Compliance Coordinator as needed.  In the absence of the Senior, examines individual (staff-prepared) judge’s reports to ensure accuracy, quality and consistency. 
  • Provides program updates, offers and works on program enhancements and coordinates PTS efforts by communicating frequently and meeting with Pretrial Director, Senior Deputy Court Administrator, Trial Court Administrator and/or Judges, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
:  A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public Administration, Business, Finance, Industrial/Engineering Technology, or job-related field and two (2) years job-related experience -OR- Six (6) years professional job-related experience can be substituted at management discretion for the required education.  -OR- Related professional program/project management may substitute for the required education at management discretion. Become CJIS Certified/keep CJIS Certification current. Required to obtain/maintain DJJ certification to screen arrested youth. 

Preferred Qualifications:  A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in criminal justice, counseling, social or behavioral science, or a related field. Three (3) years of experience in Juvenile Justice, or related experience performing duties for Court Administration, police or sheriff departments, or other correctional, social services or counseling fields.
