Responsibilities

The Estate Gardender is for performing groundskeeping and landscaping maintenance duties to include:

- Maintains tree, plants, shrubs, flowers, and grass as directed through pruning, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, leaf blowing, raking, and mulching. Drives motorized vehicles to traverse campus.

- Monitors for disease and insect damage and weeds. Reports problems to supervisor and then treats as directed. Fertilizes plants, shrubs, trees, and grass on a seasonal basis.

- Monitors irrigation needs, waters as directed, and reports problems to supervisor.

- Operates equipment such as trimmers, hedgers, mowers, edgers, and sweepers. Reports maintenance needs to supervisor.

- Plants and transplants plants, trees, shrubs, and flowers.

- Provides information about the plants to visitors and responds to questions. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

9th grade education or higher

Ability to meet physical requirements as determined by position. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, walk long distances, and work in extreme weather conditions.

Knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment, and materials used in area of work.

Skill in safely operating various types of motorized vehicles including but not limited to dump trucks, tractors, forklifts, pallet trucks, front-end loaders, and golf-carts.

Possession of a valid Florida driver's license or ability to obtain prior to hire.

Ability to perform accurately in a detail oriented environment.

Ability to perform assigned responsibilities with minimal to moderate supervision.

Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred

Customer service skills and the ability to enthusiastically provide information and answer questions about the grounds.

Anticipated Salary Range

Up to $24,000 per year + Florida state benefits available (https://hr.fsu.edu/?page=benefits/benefits_home)

Pay Plan

This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.

Schedule

Primary working hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm with a half hour lunch period. Weekends, evenings, and holidays may be required based on the needs of the Ringling.

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
