We are planning for a facility expansion that will include a large indoor Fieldhouse as part of our new training concept. Successful experience should include a significant increase in training revenue based on strong leadership. Individual must have a loud personality & highly energetic with a "can do" attitude that is passionate about changing the lives of our members through a variety of fitness & specialized training programs that meet the needs of an affluent & very active community. Director will following all State & Federal laws, will recruit, hire, train, develop & direct the fitness staff & volunteers; develop, promote & grow a volunteer base; responsible for quality staff on-boarding & training; ensure a high level of customer service & member interaction from self & staff; understand & enforce the policies & procedures of the Employee Handbook; oversee staff scheduling; ensures quality of exercise programming by fitness instructional staff; promote safety, proper use & clean up of equipment throughout the fitness dept.; process dept. missed time punch slips & review dept. payroll for submission; ensure compliance of required Y certifications; perform staff evaluations; develop & encourage staff in their Y career; communicate & work with branch property manager and/or equipment vendor for scheduled maintenance work or repairs; assist the branch director with the annual budget & annual fund raising campaign; participates in required department & association staff meetings & events. The Fitness Director is also responsible for The Arts (dance) program & the Teens Zone center.
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education & experience.
Recognized Certifications: NASM or CSCS preferred.
Must have a min. of two years management experience; gym/weight room management or trainer.
Must have a min. of two years experience in a wellness facility as an exercise specialist or the like.
Experience leading and motivating a team.
Experience in exercise testing, health risk appraisals & exercise programming for a variety of people including person with limitations.
Excellent audible ability & able to hear distress signals.
Possess excellent human relation skills to a diverse group of people from all social & economic segments of the community.
Demonstrates good moral character & is willing to adhere to & promote the YMCA Mission and focus areas.
Able to remain calm & positive in stressful situations.
Able to be flexible & be open to new trends in fitness, cross training, Olympic weight lifting, sports performance, demonstrate a willingness to learn.
Positive, energetic attitude with the ability to mult-task and lead and organize a group.
Must be very organized and detail oriented.
Good computer skills with experience in MS Office Suite & able to learn industry specific software.
Excellent written & oral communications skills.
Must be able to work frequent long periods of moderate to heavy work, including but but not limited to: standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, sitting & cleaning.
Must be able to cover group or individual exercise/skills classes when needed.
Must be dependable & professional.
Must be able to pass background & drug screening.
Must complete with the first 30 days of hire: software (CCC) training; CPR/AED-Pro & First Aid certification; required Redwoods online Risk Management training & attend New Hire Orientation.
