Job Description

Survey Party Specialist: Play a critical role in the development of Sarasota County as part of the Capital Improvement Program! One early step in any major construction project such as buildings, roads, and bridges is an accurate survey to determine design, costs, planning processes, and even the feasibility of a potential project.

As the Survey Party Specialist you will oversee the operations of the Program Management survey crew, and serve under the general direction of the Construction Technical Manager or Operational Manager and support the needs of the County, agencies and the public.

Duties:

  • Acquire field data
  • Obtain GPS coordinates to update as-builts
  • Plan the execution of the land survey project, and directs the crew accordingly
  • Reviews and checks all field computations performed by survey crew members

Research & Computation – Reads and interprets:

  • Recorded subdivision and condominium plats, private survey drawings and recorded deed descriptions to determine right-of-way line, lot line and property line locations in the field
  • Land Corner and benchmark data sheets to determine horizontal and vertical control in the field
  • Construction plans, standards details and R/W Maps in order to determine property alignment, location and grades for construction

Coordination:

  • With other Business Center’s personnel for support of heavy equipment, the use of boats, or access through fenced and locked easements
  • Private property owners when the survey personnel will be entering onto their lands
  • With County professional land surveyors (PLS) on field data and all surveying issues

Minimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or its equivalent education and four (4) years of experience in land surveying, one year of which must be in the use of land survey instruments.  A course of study at an accredited college or university in surveying or engineering can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License is required at time of hire.

Preferred Qualification Six (6) years experience, CST Level III preferred.
