Job Description

Supervisor, Fire Fleet:  This position is responsible for the supervision, coordination, directing and ensuring quality control of skilled work in the repairing, overhauling, replacing, fabricating, calibrating and preventative maintenance of fire apparatus, fire equipment, ambulances, EMS equipment, Staff/Command vehicles.  Manager is a leader, manager and supervisor responsible for all operations within the shop to include providing superior customer service and quality on-time repairs.

Duties:

  •  Supervises, evaluates, coordinates and directs assigned personnel, ensures all maintenance repairs are performed correctly, safely and are reliable.  Develops, manages, directs and coordinates the entire overhaul operation on fire apparatus, ambulances and other assets assigned which include but is not limited to gasoline and diesel engines, fuel systems, braking systems, hydraulic systems, steering mechanisms, electrical systems, ladders suspension systems, air conditioning and built-in vehicle auxiliary equipment such as pumps, lighting, foam systems and O2 systems.  Supervises and coordinates the work activity of the preventative maintenance program on all department vehicles and equipment including lubrications, oil changes, adjustments, calibrations and manufacturers safety check-off schedules. Supervises and directs the fabrications, installations or repairs to vehicle accessories and components such as water tanks, auxiliary pumping devices, radios, hydraulic systems, step mounts, equipment holders, sirens and all lighting equipment.
  • Manages proactive assessments of fraud awareness, prevention, detection and risk mitigation activities in area of responsibility; oversees financial, compliance, operational and performance audits; reviews audit findings and ensures appropriate controls are established and implemented.
  • Coordinates, manages, inspects completed repairs and ensures documentation is accurate for contracted repairs.  Orders needed parts and materials from established vendors, performs parts inventory and controls work orders and handheld devices for data entry into vehicle maintenance software.  Responsible for all shop operations and equipment to include servicing and inspections
  • Performs quality control and inspection of work performed within the facility which includes productivity, workplace safety and environmental procedures followed during work activity.  Verifies readiness of all vehicle and equipment repairs to include Emergency Vehicles and equipment prior to “in-service” release.

Minimum Qualifications:  A High School Diploma and four (4) years experience in Auto/Light Truck or related equipment.  One year working as a Fleet shop supervisor or assistant supervisor in a  Fleet repair facility is required. A valid Driver's License is required.

Preferred Qualifications:  A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Fleet related discipline. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "B" is preferred, but one will be required within six (6) months from date of hire.
