Job Description

Supervisor, Fleet:  Supervises, coordinates and oversees the daily operations of Auto/Light Truck and Truck/Heavy Equipment Technicians.  Develops and coordinates training for technicians. Ensure quality control repairs that are safe, reliable and operational.  Responsible for service and inspections and security of all County owned shop vehicles, tools and equipment to include maintenance and repairs.  Individual must demonstrated exceptional communication skills, integrity, honesty, motivation, dedication and superior work ethic.  Manager is a leader, manager and supervisor responsible for all operations within the shop to include providing superior customer service and quality on-time repairs. Individual will ensures accurate data documentation; correct charging of parts, comments that are logical and descriptive and quality checks on all documentation being submitted.  Manager must be capable of correctly opening, documentation and closing automotive work orders and ensuring accuracy.  Manager will be capable of providing budgeting information, completing point papers and briefing distinguished visitors Manager must be have a customer service professional attitude capable.  Shop manager will be responsible or provide input for developing, training, hiring and team building and morale.   Managers will be a professional indeed, attitude, able to organize and always with the mindset of how to improve processes, increase morale and save taxpayer's dollars. Stand-by phone Fleet requirement is mandatory. 

Duties:

  • Plans daily work program and assigns work to technicians.  Adjusts schedules to meet fluctuations in maintenance needs of equipment. Maintains and reviews automated fleet maintenance records.   Checks history as pertains to warranties of equipment and repairs.  Makes periodic checks and final inspections on work performed by technicians.  Monitors and approves parts requisitions and materials.  Ensures that all repairs are covered by shop repair orders.  Supervises use of equipment needed to perform specific job duties.  Ensure safe work practices, a safe work environment, safe shop equipment that are serviced and in safe working order.  Performs annual inventories of shop tools and equipment.  Performs all duties assigned in the Fleet Maintenance Operating Instructions (MOI). 
  • Ensure technicians perform skilled quality maintenance and repair of all types of automotive, light and heavy equipment.
  • Assists technicians in the diagnosis of difficult mechanical problems and oversees repair procedures, especially safety repair.
  • Performs related work as assigned, including evaluation of subordinate employees work performance.
  • Instruct/train technicians in the use of the fleet maintenance computer software program.
  • Assists with interviewing job applicants on eligibility lists and makes recommendations to supervisor for consideration of employing applicant.
  • Interacts with customers to address questions and concerns as needed.  Ensure customer service is always a top priority and customers concerns be properly addressed.  Follow-up periodically with customers to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Attends meetings, training, and conferences on job related topics. 
  • Assesses equipment in field to determine if repairs should be made in the field or in the shop.  Decides what parts to replace.

Minimum Qualifications:  A High School Diploma and four (4) years of related experience in repair of Auto/Light, Truck or related equipment.  One year working as a fleet shop supervisor or assistant supervisor in a Fleet repair facility is required.  A valid Driver's License is required.

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience, knowledge, practical application and use of fleet software program that tracks labor, parts and tasks/repairs.  Computer experience in MS Word and Excel.  Ability to accurately type 15 to 20 words per minute. Two (2) years of college with an Associate's Degree in a fleet related discipline. ASE and or EVT certifications and an ASE or EVT Master certification highly desired. Prefer Supervision of five (5) or more technicians for a minimum of one year or more.  A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "B" is preferred, but one will be required within six (6) months from date of hire.
