SUMMARY:Island Gallery -Featured Artist for August-Larry Paul
DESCRIPTION:As our Featured Artist for August\, Larry Paul presents unique expressions of Anna Maria Island sunsets as well as scenes of the traditional fishing village of Cortez.\n\nHe identifies his particular style as Abstract Expressionism\; his works are compositions abstracted from natural and human-made elements. This includes inspirations in an agglomeration of lines and chalky\, waxy solids based on sunsets\, skies and the colors of the working waterfront and beach. A guessable horizon is the focus of each work. Sometimes Larry adds the human-made forms found in certain settings\, such as small fishing shacks as they appear within natural elements.\n\nLarry explains\, "What I am attempting to do while freely distorting the realistic images and conceptions\, is to express something not quite evident to the human eye. The art observer may interpret each of the compositions based upon their own feelings\, knowing by title what the composition is meant to express\, and can then navigate through its colors\, strokes\, and blemishes."\n\nLarry uses a form of "dirty composition" to extend the rawness of each art piece. This is accomplished by leaving each drawing intact with smudges\, graph lines\, erasures\, notes\, etc.
