Barbara Clark, of the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN), will give a presentation on the Turpentine Industry in Florida. This presentation touches on the basics of how turpentine was procured and produced, followed by a more detailed analysis of the Convict Leasing System. Ethnographic work from Zora Neale Hurston is heavily relied upon to help present an accurate portrayal of what "camp life" would have been like for turpentine workers in the early to mid-1900s.
