Description

"America Recycles" Day at SandBlast 2015 is a sand sculpture competition that has an Open Division for adults and a School Division that pairs youth groups with local business sponsors to raise funds to support Keep Manatee Beautiful's programs and events which make visible differences to our community environment that improves people's quality of life in Manatee County. SandBlast also celebrates "America Recycles" Day, the only nationally recognized day (officially on Nov. 15) dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products, so as to create a better natural environment. A professional sand sculpture team called Team Sandtastic will start two days before the event by building an 80-ton exhibition sculpture at the Manatee Public Beach (past photos attached). Teams and the public are invited to the free clinics put on there by Team Sandtastic on November 12 and 13 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. to learn the tips, tricks and techniques of sand sculpting, as well as to the sand-sculpting competition on November 14 when up to 24 teams will be creating sculptures choosing a theme from one of the following: Free Form, Wildlife or Holiday. On November 14, teams will begin arriving at 8:00 a.m. at the Manatee Public Beach to get first pick of the 15-by-15 foot plots. Sculpting commences at 9:00 a.m. and continues until 1:00 p.m. Judging the sculptures of each theme from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. will include Master Sculptors with Team Sandtastic. The sand sculptures will stay in place for the public to view until December 14.
