Custodial Staff
Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium has part-time and full-time openings for Custodial Staff on weekday, weekend and evening shifts. Custodial Staff are responsible for maintaining an exceptionally clean public aquarium, laboratory and offices for all visitors and staff. The ideal candidate will be experienced in a custodian role focused on building upkeep and will be able to work responsibility without the need of constant supervision. Being well organized, having good communication and time-management skills and following directions are imperative to this position.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Sweep, remove debris and clean spills throughout the facility
- Regularly check trash and recycling cans and emptying as needed
- Clean and maintain stocked and restrooms and hand sanitizer stations including mirrors, walls, toilets, urinals, floors and restock with supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc.)
- Clean windows and acrylic tanks and displays throughout
- Respond promptly to calls for custodial/maintenance needs
- Sweep and mop floors and hallways
- Vacuum carpets and mats
- Keeping cleaning laundry, towels and mops washed and cleaned as needed
- Maintain outer appearance of the aquarium by cleaning entrance and exit
Skills:
- Basic knowledge of cleaning products and procedures or willingness to learn
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively with a team.
- Work independently at times, comprehend and follow written or verbal directions
- Ability to work nights or weekends
- Strong customer service skills
Recommended Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Custodial experience
- Ability to work independently and without constant supervision
- Good attendance record and ability to work a flexible schedule if needed
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to spend the majority of the workday walking, standing, bending and lifting.
- Tolerance to work around noisy machinery & equipment
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Ability to lift and carry cleaning equipment and supplies
- Ability to clean overhead and within upward reach
- Capable of working around chlorine and other sanitizing chemicals
