Job Summary: The Advisor, Veterans Benefits- Certifies students for U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) educational benefits; will be designated as a college School Certifying Official (SCO) with VA; assures compliance with federal, state and college directives in relation to VA educational benefits, acts as liaison with VA, and co-chairs the College’s Veterans Affairs Advisory Team.

In collaboration with College Success Coaches monitor military affiliated student enrollment to ensure class registration is appropriate to a student’s declared degree program. The Veterans Services office takes an all encompassing approach to military affiliated students. Advisors assure that they are able to guide their students towards appropriate resources to meet both their academic and student services needs which includes but is not limited to: Financial Aid, Disability Resources, scholarships, waivers, tutoring transfer planning, etc. The advisors are responsible for creating and promoting meaningful student life with a focus on military to civilian transition in the office.

Job Description Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties:
1. Utilizes in-person, written and web-based resources to provide information and guidance to potential students, current students and the college community in the areas of the veterans' educational benefits and eligibility, educational objectives and degree/vocational opportunities. 2. Assists students in applying for a wide variety of VA programs.
3. Prepares and reviews appropriate documentation necessary for certification of student's veterans' education entitlements to VA benefits. Interprets and applies federal and state regulations to all aspects of veteran student aid.
4. Serves as a liaison and resource for veterans affairs with faculty and academic administration, educational records, academic student development advisors, and administrative personnel; provides assistance in resolving problems in relation to military affiliated issues.
5. Reviews and monitors academic evaluations, enrollment, and student requirements to ensure compliance with VA regulations. Monitors military affiliated students academic progress, course enrollment, and other reporting requirements and reports to VA as appropriate an in accordance with regulated timelines
6. Acts as a liaison between VA Vocational Readiness and Employment (VR&E) Counselors and applies appropriate authorizations.
7. Ensures the College is in compliance with state and federal agencies by maintaining a current knowledge base of VA policies and procedures. Prepares and submits reports to the appropriate federal and state entities.
8. Communicates with the appropriate state and federal agencies to resolve issues as identified. 9. Coordinates with SCF Cashiering and Fee Payment to ensure accurate VA educational benefit payments are applied to student accounts.
10. Assists with on and off-campus and evening recruitment and outreach efforts by providing community outreach programs and other assistance as needed.
11. Facilitates group discussions and workshops with specific student populations to ascertain effective outreach efforts.
12. Supervises campus VA work-study students.
13. Develops and facilitates services/programming to aid in the retention of military affiliated students.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree required and at least three years experience working in a financial aid, student services, or Veterans Affairs office in a postsecondary institution; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications Leadership experience.
