Department Chair, Technology - (Internal Applicants Only)

This position is responsible for providing high quality leadership as both an academician and administrator of departmental programming. The Department Chair must demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, a willingness to work within the administrative structure, and have the credentials to teach courses within the department. The Department Chair provides oversight of technology faculty, staff, academic programs and courses across the college. The Department Chair – Technology, will receive 15ILH release annually and a $6,000 annual stipend.

Job Description
1. Works with the Assistant Dean to coordinate academic programming within the division, including scheduling and staffing to ensure programs are delivered across the college in an efficient, effective, and consistent manner.
2. Recommends for hire, supervises, mentors, and evaluates full-time and part-time faculty and staff as well as program directors/managers within the department.
3. Assists in the development of academic schedules, selection of instructional materials, and assigning teaching loads.
4. Encourages professional growth and development of departmental faculty and staff.
5. Ensures class coverage for absent faculty as needed.
6. Develops goals and objectives for the department in alignment with divisional and institutional goals in support of the college's goals and strategic plan.
7. Assists with outcomes assessment and other measures of institutional effectiveness.
8. Promotes an environment to enhance morale within the department, division, and across the college.
9. Regularly conducts departmental faculty meetings.
10. Attends scheduled administrative meetings and serves on college committees.
11. Serves to enhance communication and collaboration between various college offices as it relates to department, division, and college interests.
12. Serves as a liaison for the department to other functional units within the college.
13. Works collaboratively with Career & Technical Education, Baccalaureate Program Coordinator, Online Learning, and other academic units. 14. Prepares and administers the departmental budget.
15. Utilizes appropriate tools, technology, systems, and processes for the effective management of the department.
16. Prepares official college forms.
17. Evaluates and recommends administrative action on faculty and staff requests and applications such as leave, travel, purchases, and promotion.
18. Makes oneself available to all members of the department.
19. Addresses student and faculty concerns as appropriate.
20. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Meets SACSCOC criteria in an academic discipline within the department. Demonstrated teaching skills and subject knowledge preferably at the state college level.

Preferred Qualifications: One or more years of supervisory experience with responsibility for training, scheduling, and evaluating employees, is preferred.
