Job Summary: To assist with the administration of the financial aid functions at the State College of Florida (SCF) to include the determination and award of aid, coordination and preparation of eligible programs, and provision of financial aid advising. The Financial Aid Officer-Student Employment is responsible for monitoring student employment programs for SCF students and ensuring that the College is meeting the standards set by the Department of Education for the administration of Title IV funding.
Job Description
Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties:
1. Maintains a professional demeanor and customer service mindset. This includes knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services such as customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction when interacting with current and prospective students and families, SCF staff and SCF administration.
2. Reviews financial aid applications to determine the extent of financial need and make awards of financial support within the limits set by established policies, rules and regulations; audit and adjust awards on a continuous basis; revises estimates of need as student and/or parents report changes in their financial circumstances.
3. Calculates proration for student financial aid refunds; notifies the appropriate funding agency of refund and amount.
4. Conducts in-person, virtual and/or telephone personal interviews with students and their parents regarding the process of applying for and receiving federal, state, and third-party aid. Assist students and parents with the completion of forms and documents required to secure financial aid as necessary.
5. Determines student eligibility for the Federal Stafford Loan, Federal Parent plus Loan and Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loans.
6. Monitors federal aid application (FAFSA, ISIRs) to clear issues related to incorrect names/SSN matches, selective service matches, or citizenship documentation problems (C-FLAGs).
7. Maintains an exceptional ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task in an extremely dynamic environment. Effective problem-solving skills, and a strong desire to help those who have questions or seek resolutions. Maintains an excellent verbal and written communication skills.
8. Participates in the formulation of student aid policies, procedures, and operations.
9. Attends off-campus workshops and department meetings scheduled on a rotating basis.
10. Serves as a liaison with other College offices such as Enrollment Management and Cashiering, etc.
11. Administers Federal Work Study program: eligibility, awarding, monitoring and reconciliation of student eligibility and payments.
12. Provides assistance to student supervisors with advertising, hiring procedures, supervisory concerns, budget inquiries and emergency coverage needs.
13. Increases SCF's expenditures beyond on-campus offices for efficient/productive spending off-campus employment funding. Develop relationships with local non-profit organizations to support math, literacy and internship commitments.
14. Remains current on federal and state student employment regulations and best practices.
15. Maintains a system to track and monitor the academic progress and job evaluations for all student workers.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and three years of relevant comprehensive experience with financial aid programs or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Leadership experience preferred.
• Experience administering Title IV programs preferred.
