Job Summary: SCF seeks employees looking to be a part of a culture of service excellence in the following position of Laboratory Instructor – 2D. This position prepares materials for open instructional laboratories according to established procedures within drawing, painting and digital studios. Assists students and instructional staff under the direct guidance of faculty and area administrator. Supervises student workers in drawing, painting and digital studios.
Job Description
Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties:
1. Provides instruction to students working on current course assignments in drawing, painting, and digital studios during open studio hours and in class as requested by instructor.
2. Prepares drawing and painting studios daily according to standard format for type of class. Assures cleanliness and follows all national and state requirements pertaining to safety and health protocols. Includes reset of easel locations, taborets, lights, and model stands prior to each new class format.
3. Assists students in use of studio equipment and materials. Instructs students on safety protocols to secure a safe working environment. Includes safe handling and disposal of paint related materials and use of appropriate refuse containers.
4. Performs inventory of studio supplies (paint, drawing materials, canvas, paper, printer materials, lights, and other on the template provided) each semester.
• a. studio technology such as iPads, lockable stands, webcams, microphone, extra moveable monitors, and drawing tablets for on-line course checkout.
• b. Studio equipment such as wood easels, metal easels, plein air easels, taborets, etc.
• c. Portable, chargeable lights, standing lights, heater for models, heavy duty extension cords.
5. Coordinates use and placement of studio equipment, portable technology, media, and supply materials such as masks, hand sanitizer, soap, etc. to meet daily student and instructional requirements. Ensures default student materials available in the studio for students are stocked.
6. Manages digital tablet check-out procedure for students taking 2-D Studio Art courses (Digital Illustration and Two-Dimensional Design). Obtains student signature on check out form and follows up on return of tablet with student at semester end.
7. Lights still life set ups prior to class start and shuts off still life lights after class. Maintains lighting equipment and stores when not in use.
8. Prepares and breaks down still life objects and set ups for instructional faculty as requested. Prepares an advance schedule of needs based on faculty input.
9. Coordinates student supply kit needs/changes for the next semester with the Bookstore Manager, using the form received from Program Manager each semester. Includes communication of availability, timing of kits in bookstore and pricing to Program Manager. Supplies faculty with supply kit summary sheet with prices. Troubleshoot issues that occur with bookstore during as needed.
10. After identifying SCF supply inventory and receipt of instructor needs for the coming semester, prepare a list of needed supplies for discussion with Program Manager. After approval of items, secure bids for the materials. When received, prepare purchase request for PM approval and internal processing.
11. Stays up to date on order status. When materials received, check for accuracy against purchase order, provide result to academic secretary. Unpack and Store appropriately.
12. Coordinates figure model requests for the next semester using the instructor completed format as the basis of requests. Prepares paperwork for internal approvals for requested hours. Coordinates with the temp agency to confirm model prior to course start date.
13. Maintains a sign in and sign out sheet of model attendance and provides to Academic Secretary for temp agency billing verification. Approves time sheets weekly using temp agency on-line system.
14. Supports Student Exhibitions with collections and safe storage of student works, entries receipt, transmittal and pick up, as directed by leadership.
15. At the close of each semester, post student work removal deadlines. Performs a deep clean and reorganization for next semester.
16. Maintains an organized and secure supply, tech and cast closet.
17. Keeps prop room organized, clean and updated and ensures safe entrance and exit paths. Secures other props when needed for specific assignments.
18. Assigns work, trains and supervises student assistants as required. Creates and publishes a work schedule for scholarship students.
19. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Education/Experience: Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and four years’ experience in related field; or Bachelor’s degree from four year college or university and one year experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Supervisory Experience: One or more years of experience as a “lead” employee, with responsibility for scheduling and assigning work, training new employees, and assisting others with problems.
Preferred Qualifications
• Tutoring / Teaching Experience:
• Previous experience tutoring and/or teaching college students is preferred.
