Maintenance Assistant

The Maintenance Assistant is an hourly position, responsible for the safe maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment and facilities.  The Maintenance Assistant is expected to perform high quality work in support of Mote Marine Laboratory’s mission.
 
General Duties:
The Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of building and facility equipment as directed. Regular filter changes and air conditioning system maintenance as scheduled.  Repair and replacement of lighting systems, bulbs and ballasts as needed. Minor plumbing repairs and replacement of parts and systems.  Piping system installation and repair as needed and general light carpentry to support Facilities projects.
 
Responsible for the maintenance and care of the Laboratory grounds and exterior facilities as directed.  Duties shall include mowing, pruning, cleanup and sweeping of paved areas.   Follow a preventive maintenance program for all equipment to minimize unscheduled downtime.  Schedule grounds and maintenance work in cooperation with the Research Division and Departments to support research programs. 
 
Working Hours:
Normal hours are 8.00 am to 5.00 pm Monday through Friday, with lunch approximately 12.00 pm to 1.00 pm. Occasional longer daily hours may be required to complete specific tasks. Work location may vary depending on project, however most days will be located at Mote’s main campus.
 
 Minimum Requirements:
 
Education:                 Minimum of High School or equivalent.
Immigration Status:   Ability to work legally in the United States.
Valid Florida Driver’s License:  Required.
Skills and Abilities:   Safe vehicle operation
                               Able to safely work on ladders and elevated platforms.
                               Ability to safely lift 70 lbs occasionally
