Family Law Paralegal

Who We Are

McNary Law, PLLC is a boutique Florida law firm focused on family law and estate planning. Our work often involves clients facing stressful, high-conflict, and time-sensitive circumstances. We provide practical guidance, careful preparation, responsive communication, and professional advocacy. Internally, we value initiative, accuracy, accountability, follow-through, and teammates who help solve problems rather than wait for someone else to notice them.

About the Role

The Family Law Paralegal is responsible for helping attorneys keep cases organized, moving, and ready for the next event. This role requires more than completing assigned tasks. The right person anticipates what is needed, tracks open items, follows up, identifies problems early, and communicates clearly with the assigned attorney and client. The paralegal must be comfortable managing competing deadlines while maintaining accurate files and professional client service.

What You Will Do

  • Support family law matters from intake through settlement, trial, and post-judgment proceedings.
  • Draft and revise pleadings, motions, notices, discovery, subpoenas, financial affidavits, mandatory-disclosure documents, correspondence, proposed orders, settlement documents, and other case materials for attorney review.
  • Maintain accurate electronic case files, contact information, case notes, document naming, and task lists so the file reflects the current status of the matter.
  • Calendar and independently monitor court deadlines, discovery deadlines, hearings, mediations, depositions, client meetings, and follow-up dates.
  • Prepare attorneys for hearings, mediations, depositions, and trial, including chronologies, exhibit organization, witness and issue lists, hearing notebooks, and logistical coordination.
  • Review incoming mail, e-filing notices, orders, discovery, and correspondence; save materials promptly; identify deadlines or required action; and route them to the appropriate team member.
  • Communicate professionally and responsively with clients, opposing counsel, judicial assistants, clerks, mediators, experts, and other third parties within the scope of the role.
  • Provide clients with routine status updates, obtain missing information and documents, document communications, and elevate legal questions or significant concerns to the attorney.
  • Organize, review, summarize, and index discovery, financial records, exhibits, and other evidentiary materials; identify missing or inconsistent information for attorney review.
  • Coordinate service of process, subpoenas, hearings, mediation, depositions, and other litigation logistics.
  • Prepare and submit Florida e-filings and e-service accurately, confirm acceptance, calendar resulting deadlines, and correct deficiencies promptly.
  • Enter detailed, contemporaneous time and expense entries and assist with efficient delegation and case workflow.
  • Follow through on assignments without repeated reminders and raise concerns early when a deadline, instruction, or client request is unclear.

What Success Looks Like

  • Deadlines are identified, calendared, and handled before they become emergencies.
  • Attorneys can open the electronic file and quickly understand the status, next steps, and outstanding items.
  • Drafts are accurate, complete, proofread, and consistent with the attorney’s instructions and firm standards.
  • Clients receive timely, professional communication without being given legal advice by non-attorney staff.
  • Problems are paired with a proposed solution whenever possible.
  • Commitments are tracked and completed, and the paralegal takes ownership of the quality of their work.

Required Qualifications

  • Prior civil litigation experience, including responsibility for deadlines, drafting, filings, discovery, and hearing or trial preparation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound grammar, and careful proofreading.
  • Excellent organization, time management, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple active matters, prioritize competing demands, and work independently within attorney direction.
  • Professional judgment, discretion, and the ability to work calmly with clients in stressful circumstances.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and comfort learning and consistently using legal case-management, document-management, billing, calendaring, and e-filing systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Florida family law experience.
  • Florida Registered Paralegal designation or paralegal certificate.
  • Experience with Florida Courts E-Filing Portal, mandatory disclosure, financial affidavits, discovery, mediation, and trial preparation.
  • Experience with Clio or comparable legal practice-management software and OneDrive or SharePoint-based document management.
