The Marketing and Public Relations Manager at Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium serves the role of developing and executing the organization’s strategy for public relations, paid marketing, email marketing and social media efforts. The role’s primary objective is the strategic and effective promotion of Mote’s research, outreach, fundraising, and education efforts. The Manager must have the ability to operate independently with a high level of responsibility and possess creative, forward-thinking skills. Often representing Mote in the media or in the community, the Manager should exhibit professionalism and dedication to advancing Mote’s mission. In the role as supervisor, the Manager should seek to further develop the skills and confidence of direct reports while completing standard personnel management tasks.
The Marketing & Public Relations Manager is a member of the Mote Community Relations & Communications department, reporting to the Vice President of Communications & Strategic Initiatives. The Manager oversees the strategic development and implementation of Mote’s:
  •     Media relations
  •     Social media platforms
  •     Email marketing
  •     Paid advertising
  •     Community engagement activities
The Marketing & Public Relations Manager provides guidance and/or support to:
  •     Guest services and exhibits
  •     Development campaigns and appeals
  •     Events planning and execution
  •     Internal communications
  •     Other CRC activities such as Mote Magazine and website management
  •     Government relations
The Marketing & Public Relations Manager is directly responsible for:
1    Strategic planning for Mote’s overall communications strategy; ensuring cohesive messaging and voice across communications channels; developing and maintaining brand standards and SOPs for communications channels
2    Ensuring communications properly fulfills and meets the needs of Mote departments, such as Development fundraising efforts, Aquarium events and membership needs, etc.
3    Seeking new communications strategies and tactics; evaluating the effectiveness of communications efforts
4    Ensuring Mote is presented as a leader in its fields: marine science, regional tourism, STEM education
5    Crisis communications preparedness
6    Managing direct reports and developing their communications skillsets, building confidence, providing opportunities for professional development, etc.

Desirable skills & experience
This role requires skills in strategic thinking, independence and professionalism.
-    Exceptional communications skills for a variety of audiences: writing, public speaking, giving tours, conducting media interviews, etc.
-    Familiarity with digital communication tools: social media platforms and management
tools, email marketing platforms, website management, media monitoring, etc.
-    Ability to adapt quickly and professionally handle high-stress situations, ie. during crisis communications
-    Experience with zoos, aquariums, university research divisions, environmental
nonprofits, etc.
-    Drive to seek new strategies and tactics, opportunities for learning and growth, etc.
