The workplace is often the front line when someone is struggling with mental health issues. Employers have a crucial role to play in promoting mental health and creating a supportive work environment. According to a survey from earlier this year by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 74% of full-time employees say it is appropriate to discuss mental health concerns at work, but only 58% say they feel comfortable doing so.
We are often uncomfortable with leaning into the conversation, worried that “saying the wrong thing” will make matters worse. This presentation will provide insight into the myths of mental health that prevent us from starting the conversation and suggestions for engaging with and guiding someone to seek resources and professional help.
