The individual is expected to exercise professionalism in all activities related to the role of academician, including those concerned with the various duties assigned by the Department Chair, and any involvement with colleagues, peers, community and students. The position of an adjunct faculty member is temporary, and is contracted as needed. NOTE: Job descriptions and essential functions are subject to change due to advances in technology, utilization of workforce, and other factors which may impact the College's need to modify position requirements. Adjunct Faculty will be compensated at a rate of $2000 per 3 ILH. Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties: • Teaches all courses as assigned. • Maintains attendance and punctuality. • Maintains a professional appearance at all times. • Prepares course syllabi (if not provided by the Department). • Prepares instructional materials (if not provided by Department). • Delivers course content in an effective manner to support student learning and meets the designated student learning outcomes. • Participates in assessment. • Meets all scheduled classes on the assigned day /time. • Uses scheduled class time appropriately. • Makes oneself available to students and college officials as needed. • Demonstrates a professional attitude, philosophy, compassion and commitment that promotes student student growth and learning. • Demonstrates commitment to the institutional mission, goals, and objectives. • Adheres to College Rules and Procedures, which reflect updated Federal, state, and local legislation/regulations and College policy that governs the educational process. • Maintains accurate student records for grading and attendance purposes, submitting attendance, grades, and other reports within college deadlines. • During periods of planned absences, coordinates with the respective Department Chair or supervising academic administrator for qualified substitute instructors and provides instructional materials, protocols, and directions to ensure consistent and sequential classroom instruction. • Promotes and maintains a healthy and safe educational and work environment, free from harassment and discrimination. • Demonstrates professional growth and development by updating knowledge of subject matter and using effective teaching techniques. • Develops, maintains and promotes a positive working environment among departmental faculty. • Performs all other duties as assigned by the respective Department Chair orother supervising academic administrator. Job Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Education/Experience: Demonstrated teaching skills and subject knowledge, preferably at the community college level. Degree and credit hour requirements must be met in accordance with the criteria for accreditation of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. 18 graduate semester hours in psychology, social work, or mental health counseling, plus master's degree OR master's or doctorate degree in psychology, social work, mental health counseling, human relations, organizational behavior, or conflict management. • Computer Skills: Must demonstrate effective use of instructional technology and be familiar with current office hardware and software. • Certificates and Licenses: Responsibility for Communication: Must be able to effectively communicate with students, staff and the public. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment varies from very quiet to moderate as is typical of an office or classroom environment. The environment is usually indoors in a centrally heated/air-conditioned climate. Lighting conditions meet recommended standards and are provided by direct and/or indirect electric light fixtures of various kinds. This position may require the wearing of personal protective devices for health and safety precautions. Physical Demands: The physical demands described he re are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to touch, handle, feel or reach objects, tools and controls; and verbally communicate with students and co-workers. The employee may be frequently required to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Independently transport oneself to various campus locations on a 100-acre campus. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, identification and discernment of colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
