Manager, Natural Science Lab Salary: $41,453.00 - $65,495.00 Annually Location: Bradenton Job Type: Department: Natural Science Job Number: 5098133 Closing: Continuous Job Summary Oversees the management of the laboratory buildings and equipment on assigned campus(es) under the supervision of the Director, Natural Science Lab. Monitors budget balances, and purchases lab supplies, educational materials and minor equipment based on prioritized needs. Consults with faculty and lab personnel to determine any laboratory needs and assists the Director, Natural Science Lab in the general oversight of the instructional laboratory. Provides supervision of all laboratory staff, technicians, support specialists and student assistants. Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties: • Provides general oversight of laboratory facilities. Supervises and directs staff in support of laboratory classes:includes determination of work schedules , course work assignments, training, professional and technical skill development, performance evaluation and discipline. • Reviews and monitors department budget balances and purchases needed laboratory supplies and educational materials for all science classes and related activities. Reviews and evaluates the supply requests provided by staff and faculty and sets priorities accordingly. • Identifies and works with vendors, obtains quotes as needed and manages the purchasing process, including submission of requisitions, tracking of orders, receipt of supplies and reconciliation of invoices. • Assists lab staff and faculty with the identification of minor and capital equipment needs within the instructional laboratories as part of the budget proposal process. Helps with assessment and justification of requested equipment as it applies to the College's Strategic Priorities and Goals. Provides recommendations to Director, Natural Science Lab . • Oversees that the laboratory facilities are in proper working order. Assesses and evaluates the need for repairs or maintenance of equipment by an outside vendor. Informs Director, Natural Science Lab of equipment repair/maintenance issues and makes arrangements for repair work. • Provides oversight of the inventory of minor and capital equipment, chemicals, biological agents, supplies and instructional materials. Ensures that records are updated and accurate. Manages and supervises lab staff with the use of lab equipment, materials and supplies to meet daily instructional requirements within all areas of the laboratories. • Manages laboratory buildings and educational equipment within the science labs, assuring readiness for daily use by staff, faculty and students. Identifies major and minor maintenance and safety issues and takes corrective actions. Reports issues to Director, Natural Science Labas well as the appropriate College department(s). • Performs other duties as assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Education/Experience: Bachelors' Degree from four-year college or university and five years of discipline related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. -Science (preferred Biology or Chemistry) background-Strongly detail oriented-Excellent time management skills-Proactive approach to work, with the foresight to anticipate issues and the ability to work well in advance-Ability to take initiative-Ability to deal effectively with interruptions and distractions-Ability to cope with sudden changes in schedule or plans-Ability to modify work schedule to deal with demands of the job is crucial-Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm manner-Excellent organizational skills-People/Team oriented-Excellent interpersonal "people" skills-Ability to lead and supervise effectively-Ability to effectively train and assign/delegate work appropriately-Excellent communication skills-Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously-Ability to set priorities appropriately-Positive attitude and engagement on the job-Ability to maintain accurate and organized records-Experience with inventory management, building management, safety standards-Ability to effectively work with outside vendors and community groups • Supervisory Experience: More than two years of direct supervisory experience, including responsibility for hiring, firing, performance management, training and coaching is preferred. • Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional/scientific journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. • Math Ability: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to work with formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc. • Computer Skills: Intermediate knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet and e-mail. Additional knowledge of discipline specific software. Must be proficient in current College e-mail, data base and other College required software. Must remain current with technology changes. • Certificates and Licenses: May be required in science labs.
